Quaff This: Daniel Lenko 2005 Viognier (Niagara, Ontario)

Clear, with a deep golden colour. Nose of orange blossoms, citrus zest, honey and buttered toast. Mint, apricot, creamed honey and lemon on the tastebuds. Long, acidic finish. Viogniers typically are quite sweet, sometimes to the point of being cloying. But this one was exceptionally well-balanced; the acid definitely makes a difference. Had it with my cordon bleue bundles (proscuitto, Brie, spinach and chicken wrapped in pastry) with a bearnaise sauce. The acid helped cut through the uber-buttery sauce, while the hint of fruit paired well up against the sharper flavours of the Brie.
